Have You Lost Connection with the Divine?

Have You Lost Connection with the Divine?

Good morning, lovely YOU!

I was marveling the other day that my relationship with my sweet Dave has never felt stale to me. We have been together for quite a number of years now, and I feel as connected and excited and in love as I ever did if not MORE!!

Part of why I was marveling is because I haven’t always had that same feeling with the Divine. For most of my life I fell in and out of love with God, or perhaps a more accurate way of saying it is, I sometimes felt connected and sometimes didn’t. Like how you can spend a part of your life feeling so completely connected with one of your friends. And then one of you moves away and you hardly ever see or speak with one another and you just kind of… drift apart.

Does this happen to you? You commit to a meditation practice or spend more time in nature, or read the bible or go to church, whatever it is that helps you feel connected to the divine creator. And when you’re making an effort to be in the divine’s presence, you feel connected. But then something happens, life happens, and you find yourself drifting away from God, drifting aimlessly and without any sense of passion or purpose?

It’s Time to Reconnect

Just as you sometimes need to reconnect with a friend or a romantic partner – or heck, even the Internet – you may be sensing that it’s time to reconnect with the divine source, God, the creator, whatever you want to call him, her, it. But sometimes it can feel really hard. We’re stressed out and distracted by current events. We don’t feel good or energized. We miss how we felt when God was a presence and a priority in our life, but we just don’t know how to get that old feeling back.

The following are some of the ways I have been able to reconnect with God over the years:

Choose a Different Spiritual Connecting Tool

We all access the Divine through different channels. Some chant, some meditate, some pray, some visualize, drum, dance ecstatically or walk through nature. It may be that you simply need a different way to connect with God. Just because meditation worked for you for 5 years doesn’t mean you have to keep using that channel if it’s just not doing it for you. Switch it up and try something different. Keep trying new tools until you find the one that makes you feel excited and in the presence of the Divine.

Cultivate Gratitude

Gratitude is like God’s Bluetooth. When you are able to hold the feeling of gratitude within you, it’s like you are always connected. I truly feel the emotion of gratitude is the holiest one we can feel. Over the years I have studied various religions and one thing most have in common is a focus on gratitude. This feeling helps us shift our focus away from the self/ego into our higher self/spirit where we are always connected to the Divine. We actually are always connected, we just have to shift our focus so we become aware, once again, of the unbreakable bond between God and God’s creations.

So, if you haven’t felt grateful in a while, try to find something each day to be grateful for and really FEEL that feeling. It can be anything – a good parking spot, lunch with a friend, the feeling of the sun on your face, a piece of artwork from your child, finding spare change under your sofa cushion. Just LOOK for things to be thankful for. So many of us LOOK for things to be angry about or depressed about when we can easily find things to be GRATEFUL for.

Perform Tiny Acts of Kindness

Author Leo Buscaglia once said, “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” This is such a great reminder of how powerful small acts of kindness can be. You don’t have to start a charitable organization or donate millions to worthy causes to make a difference in this world. The highest expression of the Divine, of God, is love, compassion and kindness. When we perform kind acts, even small ones, it’s like we turn on our spiritual faucet and let God flow through us.

Be Still

“Be still and know that I am God.”

We are all so busy, busy, busy, going, going, going most days. The Divine is very quiet and gentle. It is there, but you’ll have a hard time perceiving it if you are going 100 MPH.

Spend more time doing absolutely nothing but being still and observing. You can do this in nature, which is powerful, or you can do it in your bedroom. It doesn’t matter. But be sure to take time each day to STOP and listen and invite God back into your life.

God never disconnects with us, we are the ones that get too darn busy and forget to call and check in. If you are feeling lost or alone, you’ve lost your connection to the Divine. Use these practices to get back in touch with the creator.

Blessings to you all,

Prue
