Good morning lovely you,
As I sip my tea and watch little Zuzu sleeping next to me snoring away it makes we realize how sleep can be so difficult for us humans, but for Koala bears and cats they just curl up and out they go. We can learn so much from our animals. They are disciplined and in a routine with their eating and sleeping. Koala bears have their secret concoction of the Eucalyptus plant and cats love the herb Catnip or Cat Mint. What herbs do you use to help you?
Sometimes it is not easy to get to sleep and stay asleep especially when you are worried about your health.
Here’s how to sleep well with cancer:
Years ago when I was diagnosed with cancer, there were not many natural treatments to help you get better sleep. I remember when I was a child, my grandmother would put REAL lavender under my pillow when I couldn’t sleep. Today we are inundated with sleep products, gadgets and thousands of oils. It can be overwhelming to find what is right for you.
Can’t sleep? It must be time to try essential oils.
There are so many different oils and combinations of oils on the market today; it can be confusing because they all promise you a good night sleep and that isn’t the truth.
We are all different so what works for a friend may not work for you. It may take a little bit of trial and error to find your perfect combo. The rule of thumb when choosing a new product is to listen to your body and get to know your body well. If you have sensitive skin or sensitivities to foods, then you may need a lighter essential oil or just a few drops of the oil you love diluted with another oil. If you have an iron stomach and nothing phases you may want to try a more intense oil and a combo of oils. Once you find your combo, you will know it because you will be in the land of nod much quicker and sleep deeper and longer!
I love lavender because it reminds me of my childhood and is a gentle calming scent which helps me to release nervous tension and emotional stress. If you are an empath, this oil works wonders! I generally spray it on my pillow or put a few drops in a diffuser next to my bed. You don’t need a lot of oil just a few drops in a diffuser works well. Some of the fragrances can be too strong and will do the opposite. They will keep you awake.
You can apply your favorite oil or a combination of oils topically. Rub the oils on specific parts of your body. The soles of your feet work well. If you want to use topical methods, make sure the oil is diluted in a carrier oil (pure virgin olive oil, almond oil) before you rub it on your skin.
Here are some of the best ways to use essential oils to sleep well with cancer
- Dilute essential oils with an air diffuser – just a couple of drops. Rub a few drops onto your forehead, neck, chest, wrist, hands, feet or toes.
- Rub a few drops into your hands and take a deep breath.
- Mix a few drops of oil with Epsom salts and add to a hot bath.
- Create a spray to spritz into the air or on your pillow.
- Add a few drops to a pot of boiling water, and then sit with your face over the bowl and a towel over your head and steam your face. I do this when I have nasal congestion, and it can bring relief to people with sleep apnea.
When choosing an oil make sure the company states its botanical Latin name and the oil is advertised as “pure” or “100%” essential oils. Oils that say, “perfume oil” or “fragrance oil” often use synthetic ingredients. Please search for organic essential oil or Therapeutic grade with non-GMO. These are more expensive, but they don’t have toxins so well worth the money.
