After decades of being told what to eat, what to fear, what was healthy, and what was dangerous, many of us are waking up to a sobering truth: we were not just misinformed, we were trained to doubt ourselves. Between nonstop news cycles, social media hot takes, conflicting health advice, and fear driven headlines, it’s no wonder people feel overwhelmed and disconnected from their own inner knowing. The noise is constant, the messaging is loud, and often, it’s designed to keep us anxious, dependent, and confused. So how do we navigate a world like this without losing ourselves in it? We learn to listen inward again. The Cost of Outsourcing Our Inner Voice For years, we were encouraged to hand our authority over to experts, influencers, institutions, and systems that promised certainty. If you just followed the rules, everything would be fine. But something felt off, didn’t it? Your body reacted differently than the guidelines predicted. Foods that were labeled “bad” made you feel good. Foods that were praised made you feel terrible. Treatments that were supposed to help left you depleted or worse than before. When we ignore those signals long enough, intuition grows quiet. Not because it disappears, but because we stop trusting it. Reconnecting with your intuition begins by recognizing this pattern without shame. You were not wrong for listening to what you were told. But now, you get to choose something better. What Intuition Actually Is Intuition is not a sudden lightning bolt or a dramatic psychic moment. Most of the time, it is quiet and unassuming. It shows up as a gentle nudge, a feeling in your gut, or a soft yes or no that does not ask for permission or explanation. I learned this in a very personal way during my own battle with cancer. Well-meaning experts told me I could eat whatever I wanted. They said my body needed calories, comfort, and indulgence. On paper, it sounded reasonable. But something inside me hesitated. Every time I tried to follow that advice, my body felt heavy, inflamed, and overwhelmed. There was no study handed to me at that moment. No headline or guideline. And this was 30+ years ago before the Internet or the phrase anti-inflammatory was even well-known!! I just had a calm inner knowing that whispered, “this is not what I need right now.” When I listened to that voice and shifted toward anti-inflammatory, nourishing foods, something changed. My body felt supported instead of burdened, my energy stabilized, and my healing felt more intentional. That experience taught me that intuition is not separate from the body. The mind/body connection is real and powerful! Your system is constantly processing information long before your conscious mind catches up. Intuition is simply your nervous system, your cells, and your lived experience communicating with you. The more you listen, the clearer the language becomes. Turning Down the Noise You cannot hear your inner voice while drowning in external input. One of the most powerful things you can do to begin hearing your inner wisdom is create intentional quiet. This does not require moving to the woods or giving up your phone forever. Simply start with small, conscious pauses. Turn off the news for a few days and notice how your body responds. Take breaks from social media. Limit how much information you consume about health and illness in a single day. Ask yourself often, “Does this information make me feel empowered or afraid?” Fear based messaging is rarely rooted in truth. It is rooted in control!! Learning the Language of Your Body Your body speaks before your mind does. Pay attention to physical cues when you hear new information. Do your shoulders tense? Does your stomach tighten? Do you feel heavy, rushed, or pressured? Now notice the opposite. When something aligns with truth for you, there is often a sense of calm, clarity, or relief. Even if the information challenges what you believed before, it does not feel threatening. This is especially important when navigating health decisions. Your body is an intelligent system, not a passive object that needs constant correction. The more you listen, the clearer the signals become. Questioning Without Cynicism Heightening intuition does not mean rejecting everything or becoming distrustful of all information. It means learning how to question with curiosity instead of fear. Ask better questions. Who benefits from this message? Truth can stand up to questions. Lies rely on urgency and emotional manipulation. You do not need to accept everything you hear, and you also do not need to fight it. You simply get to observe, evaluate, and decide for yourself. Rebuilding Trust with Yourself Trusting your intuition is like rebuilding a relationship. Start small. Make minor decisions based on how your body feels instead of what you think you “should” do, then notice the outcome. Each time you listen and see positive results, confidence grows. And when you misinterpret a signal, be kind with yourself. Intuition is not about perfection, it’s about connection. Coming Home to Yourself The real healing journey is not about collecting more information, it’s about remembering who you are beneath the noise. Your body is not broken and your intuition is not gone – you were simply taught to look everywhere else first. When you come back to yourself, decisions become clearer, health choices feel more aligned, and the world, while still plenty noisy, loses its grip on you! Truth lives inside you. Always has. You just have to listen. |
